Morton’s Neuroma

A morton’s neuroma is a specific cause of forefoot pain due a trapped nerve that relates to the toes. It typically occurs between toes three and four, but can occur between any two toes. It typically presents with forefoot pain, including night pain and numbness that extends into the toes.

Diagnosis is made clinically and with a combination of imaging such as ultrasound or MRI.

Treatment options:

Non operative treatment

  • Modification of shoes including metatarsal dome to offload the affected toes

  • Injections under radiology guidance

 

Operative treatment

  • Surgical treatment is indicated when other non surgical treatment has failed and symptoms persist
